General
- How many computers does Teach
support?
One of the strengths of the Teach software lies in its scalability. The software
employs intelligent network technologies to result in the least amount of load on
your network. It is currently being used in lectures with 200 computers at one time
with the same unparalleled performance and almost no additional load on the network.
- Do I need any additional
hardware to use Teach?
Once you have selected the student computer(s), right click on any of the selected
computer icons. A menu that appears would display all the functions available.
- Can I apply a function to
just a select group of students?
All the functions, such as Screen Broadcast, Video Broadcast, System Shutdown, Internet
Lock and the various other features can be applied to a single student, a select
number of students or the entire class.
To select a group of students, first click on one computer in the
Classroom Layout, press and hold the Ctrl key while clicking the next
computer. Continue doing this until you have selected all the computers that you
want.
- Besides using the horizontal
toolbar, is there another way to access the various functions in Teach?
Once you have selected the student computer icon(s), right-click on any of the selected
icons. A menu that appears would display all the functions available.
- What happens if a student
restarts his computer during a demo session?
When he turns on his computer, it would return to its previous state. For example,
if you are doing a Screen Broadcast, the student computer would continue displaying
the broadcast. If the computer had been placed under System Lock, it would still
be locked when the computer restarts.
Classroom Layout
- Can I easily identify every
student computer shown in the Classroom Layout?
In the Classroom Layout, every student computer is
depicted with an icon, with a text label displayed below each icon. By default,
the text label shows the computer's name. Using the Student Identification feature,
teachers can prompt students to enter their actual names. Their names would then
be displayed below their computer icons in the Classroom Layout.
- How can I tell which students
are using what computers?
Using the Student Identification feature, teachers can prompt students to enter
their actual names. Their names would then be displayed below their computer icons
in the Classroom Layout.
- Can I increase the size of
the Classroom Layout view pane?
To fit more computer icons in the Classroom Layout,
other view panes such as Internet Lock, Application Lock, Device Lock and Help Requests
can be moved, resized or hidden to the sides of the window.
- Sometimes I notice little
images that show up on the computer icons in the Classroom Layout. What are those?
In the Classroom Layout, each computer icon may have
little state icons that correspond to its status. For example, when a student has
sent you a Help Request, a state icon in the shape of a life buoy shows up on top
of his computer icon.
More than one state icon may appear on a computer icon at the same time.
- How do I connect the students'
computers to my computer in Teach?
First create a classroom layout using the Classroom Layout Editor. Then open this
layout in Teach. All the computers would be represented by icons in the
Classroom Layout. Computers that are switched off are displayed in blue.
Connected computers are displayed in green.
Demonstrate
Monitor
- Can I observe more than one
student at a time?
When you use the Observe feature to view student desktops,
you can view multiple student desktops at a time. Each desktop can be zoomed in
to full screen mode for a better view.
In addition, the Cycle Scan function automatically
refreshes the current selected student desktop (in full screen mode) to the next
student desktop at a pre-set time interval.
Control
Restrict
- How can I ensure that students
are not playing games or surfing the Internet during my lesson?
There are several features within the Teach software that allows you to closely
monitor student activity. Application Lock prevents
students from launching any application other than those that you specifiy. Internet Lock blocks students' access to the Internet
so that they cannot surf websites or chat over the Internet.
You can also use the Observe feature to view student
desktops.
- Can I set a time limit for
System Lock?
When a student computer is placed under System Lock,
his mouse and keyboard are both be disabled. His screen shows up as black with a
pre-defined message from the teacher.
System Lock can be used as an announcement broadcaster. You can define and broadcast
a message to all student computers for a preset time interval. During this time,
students' keyboards and mice are locked, bringing their attention to your announcement
displayed on their screens. System Lock is automatically turned off when the time
limit is reached.
It is also applicable when students go for a recess. You can turn on System Lock
for the duration of the recess. When students return from their break, their computers
become active again.
- What if my students are all
using different Internet browsers? Would Internet Lock still work?
Internet Lock works across all browsers, as well as
Internet-dependent applications such as instant messengers, email clients and FTP
clients.
- Can I still allow certain
useful websites when Internet Lock is turned on?
With whitelist enabled, even with Internet Lock turned
on you can still specify certain websites in the allowed list. This also applies
to Application Lock and Device Lock.
Interact
- How can I assist my students?
During the course of a lesson students can seek to gain your attention by sending
Help Requests. A student can request for help by right
clicking on the Junglebyte Teach icon at the taskbar and selecting the Help Request
menu item. Alternatively, the student may press Ctrl + F1 to display the Help Request
window, where a message can be entered and sent to the teacher.
When a Help Request message is received, it is immediately shown in the Help Requests
panel on your screen, and the respective student's graphics symbol within the Classroom
Layout is changed to reflect that student is seeking your attention.
To respond to the Help Request, double-click on the student's message and this will
initiate a one-to-one chat conversation with the respective student.
- Are students able to chat
with one another?
Using the Chat Forum feature, students can chat with
the teacher and amongst one another. Each Chat Forum supports multiple users and
can only be initiated by the teacher. To allow teachers to supervise all chat interactions,
they are automatically made members of all Chat Forums. Students cannot initiate
a Chat Forum.
